A new "Internet" for the industry
Digital change in industry is changing processes, methods and procedures in production and logistics. In the concrete implementation, however, even innovative pioneering companies often reach their limits. What appears to be conclusive and error-free in the conception phase, fails in test operation due to hurdles that initially appear banal.
Conventional Internet technologies – which are designed for communication between people – are unsuitable for the requirements of international competition for reliable, flexible, industrially manufactured products, services and systems. Rather, industry needs a different Internet and its own operational environment.
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has set itself the goal of promoting such an "Internet for industry" by developing cognitive Internet technologies. To this end, the broad range of technology and application competencies paired with agile development formats are to be used within our research organization.
With the new solutions from the fields of cognitive sensor technology, data sovereignty and data economics, as well as new methods of machine learning, it should be possible, among other things, to
to identify and locate plants, workpieces and transported goods without any doubt,
to be able to apply machine learning methods in a target-oriented manner even when the database is small,
Ensure the transparency and trustworthiness of AI and ML procedures,
be able to react to events in real time,
Make complexity of systems controllable,
data-driven value chains and much more.
We want to take a first look behind the scenes of this vision on November 22, 2018 in Berlin – at the "Fraunhofer Day for Cognitive Internet Technologies: Revolutionary Solutions for Industry".
